0.12 or even 0.11 strings on a Mini Maton
« on: January 07, 2018, 08:00:32 PM »

Hello everybody!
That's gotta be the least original greeting but i guess it can pass a a minimalistic sort...    :D
I've got a Mini Maton that according to their website came from the factory fitted with 0.13 strings.
The problem for me is that i find play only finger picking style on it but also many bar chords that become impossible to articulate or even sustain for more than a short moment if i need to play them on the first frets.
I'd like to know if any of you successfully use lower tension strings like 0.12 or 0.11 on a Mini Maton without too much bass loss or buzzing.

Hi Bravodel and welcome to the forum! I'm no expert, but I think a drop from .13 to .12 would make no appreciable difference to the neck. It certainly wouldn't hurt to give it try. I'm also guessing that the bigger problems would stem from increasing string gauge rather than lowering it.
